Visual Community Mapping

Often community health assessment maps are presented as a written report. Eleni pursued a photography-based research method to map community assets and deficits. Images are powerful teachers and provide a point of departure for community-led conversations. 

Assets and deficits exist within the eye of the beholder, therefore at times the same photograph is placed in both categories. Community asset -based mapping is a powerful tool for understanding existing community resources. The results are intended to guide conversations about public health interventions and health policy initiatives.
